1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
4 tablespoons flour
3 egg yolks (keep whites in another bowl)
3 cups milk
1/2 cup Hershey’s cocoa
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 stick butter
Preheat oven to 400 degrees and bake pie shells until lightly browned. Set aside while preparing the chocolate mixture. Blend sugar and flour in a small bowl. Mix egg yolks and milk in another bowl. Add cocoa to flour mixture and blend thoroughly. Gradually add flour mixture to milk and egg mixture. Cook on medium heat stirring constantly until mixture has thickened.
Put chocolate mixture into baked pie shells. Beat egg whites until stiff, add vanilla flavoring. Add about 1/2 teaspoon of Cream of Tartar to keep beaten egg whites from bleeding. Pour onto chocolate, spread to cover the pie. Return to oven to brown let cool before cutting. Pie is delicious if served a little warm. Cover and keep in refrigerator any remaining pie.
